On Sunday May 19 PFC Barcelona 2006 B reached new heights by winning the NJYS National Championship Series State Cup. After winning the NJ US Club State Cup in 2021 and completing a treble in 2022 by winning the NJYS Presidents Cup, the Eastern Regionals and the Nationals the Barcelona boys achieved another milestone.
In the final of the U18 National Championship Series NJYS State Cup Barcelona defeated Den of Lions Strikers with the final score of 4:3.The run to the title started on April 13 with a game versus PSC Academy 2006 Blue. Two goals by Archie Smith and one by Nick Matese and a comfortable 3:1 win.
In the semifinal game against Union Dragons Blue 06 Barcelona was down a goal after 24 minutes. Strong second half and three goals by Nick Matese, Azariah Breitman and Felipe Matar Grandi and Barcelona were on the way to the final.The final versus Den of Lions was a thrilling game. Barcelona was up 3:0 at half time. Nick Matese opened the scoreline from a direct free kick, Azariah Breitman doubled the lead and Felipe Mater Grandi scored the third one from another free kick. Barcelona continued to create chances early in the second half and after missing a couple the boys scored a fourth goal after solo effort by Felipe Matar Grandi. In the last 30 minutes of the game Den of Lions showed why they only lost once in the last calendar year. They scored three goals and missed a PK in the dying seconds of the game. Final Score 4:3.
It was a final that will be remembered by all players, parents and coaches for a very long time.

PFC BARCELONA 2006 BOYS WIN THE USYS NATIONAL PRESIDENTS CUP
The 2022 USYS President’s Cup Nationals took place in Greensboro, NC from July 10-14.
In the first match of the group stage, PFC Barcelona trailed 1:0 against Chicago Kics at halftime after conceding from a corner kick. After dominating play early in the second half and creating a number of opportunities the boys finally put the ball in the back of the net. Brian Donis crossed the ball from the left and Anthony Fitch was in the right spot to control the ball and scored the equalizer. Barcelona continue to dominate and create chances but the game finished 1:1.
In the second game, PFC Barcelona defeated SC Tuzos Garfield from Arizona 2:0. The first goal came in the 25th minute of the game after Nick Matese headed the ball in goal after an assist from Felipe Matar Grandi. In the 61st minute, Nick Matese scored his second goal in the game after converting a penalty kick.
In the third and last game of the group stage, PFC Barcelona edged 1:0 Bayern Munich 2006 Boys White from Texas. The only goal in the game came after Brian Donis find Brandon Urias in acres of space and he calmly placed the ball in the goal.
This result set up a final and rematch against Chicago Kics.
On July the 10th at 10 am the referee gave the start of the U16 National Presidents Cup Final between PFC Barcelona and Chicago Kics. It was a very tight match and both teams fought really hard in the rain. In the last minute of the first half, Nick Matese score a beautiful free kick from 35 yards out. Nine minutes into the second half Felipe Matar Grandi crossed the ball from a free kick and Nick Matese deflected into the goal to make it 2:0. Fifteen minutes before In the end Chicago made it 2:1 but the PFC Barcelona boys defended very well for the rest of the game and deservedly won the National title.
The National title caps a great season for the PFC Barcelona U16 B team. In the space of just three months the boys won the USYS Regional Showcase, EDP Spring Showcase, NJYS Presidents State Cup, USYS Eastern Regionals, and the Nationals.

PFC 2006 Boys Barcelona Win The NJ President's State Cup Title!
The road to the Cup Title
In the first round, PFC Barcelona team traveled to Wayne to play against Escuela FC 2006 B. The home team scored first in the 31st min of the game. 12 min into the second half Kyle Ingersol equalized with a shot from inside the penalty box. Barcelona took control of the game 2 min later when Archie Smith scored the second with a shot from outside of the box. 5min before the end of the game Azariah Breitman put an end to the contest with a well-placed shot from outside of the box. 3:1 and the boys were into the next round.
In the second round, PFC Barcelona paid a visit to Cherry Hill FcPremier Barca. The boys were very unlucky to concede first after dominating the majority of the 1st half and the opening minutes of the second half. After going down in the 17th min of the second half, PFC Barcelona team again showed resilience and fought back. 12 min before the end, Brandon Urias tied the game. In the last minute of the game after a cross from a corner kick, Felipe Matar Grandi jumped above everybody else and headed the ball into the goal. In the added time, Nick Matese scored the 3rd goal of the game. With a final score of 3:1, PFC Barcelona advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJYS President’s Cup.
The next opponent was NJ Santos Rush 2006 B Black. Heavy rain and cold temperatures didn’t stop the PFC team from dominating the game. In the 21st min, Felipe Matar Grandi’s through ball to Brandon Urias put him into a 1v1 situation with the opponent's goalkeeper. Brandon was clinical from short-range and scored another one of his trademark goals. Only 3 minutes later, he stole the ball from the goalkeeper and scored his second of the game. PFC Barcelona dominated the rest of the game but the score remained 2:0 until the final whistle.
The semifinal game v NLSA 2006 B Elite took place on May 21st in Jackson, NJ. After beating the NLSA team 3:1 earlier in the season in a regular league game the PFC boys were determined to prove they were the better team again. Although this time it was much more of a typical cup game with the final at stake and both teams being very cautious not to concede first. Still, the PFC Barcelona team had the majority of the possession and created more chances. The only goal of the game came 4 min before the end on a corner kick by Liam Kennedy and a one-time finish by Zeb Jerdonek. Even the 8 min added time could not change the outcome of the game. The boys deservedly were headed to the final the next day.
At 12:30 pm on May 22 in Marlboro, NJ in a 90 plus degree heat PFC Barcelona and Clifton Stallion Turf Boys walked on the field for a pre-game presentation. Just a few minutes later the referee blew his whistle to start the game. After a slow start, the boys took the initiative and never looked back. In the 23rd minute, Zeb Jerdonek put Brandon Urias through on goal and he didn’t make a mistake. 1:0 PFC. In the last minute of the 1st half, Francis Savard put pressure on the opponent's goalkeeper and stole the ball to score the second goal of the final. In the 64th minute of the game, Matthew Kim started an attack in the middle third of the field, exchanged a couple of passes with Chris Lee, and played a ball to Felipe Matar Grandi who then passed the ball in the wide area to Liam Kennedy. He took a touch and crossed the ball on the ground Matthew Kim who was unmarked from the penalty spot put the finishing touch on the game. 3:1 and well-deserved victory. Half an hour later the two captains of the team Nick Matese and Felipe Matar Grandi raised the cup above their heads and the celebration began. The jubilant players started jumping up and down and, hugging each other and the smiles on their faces showed just how much that success means to them.

PFC Barcelona 2006 B won their bracket in the EDP Fall Showcase November 27-29.
The boys won all three games, scored 7 goals and only conceded one goal.
On Friday the team won their game against STA-MUSC 2006B USYS. The first half finished 1:1. In the second half after missing several good chances the boys finally broke the deadlock with 8 min to go. Final score 2:1.
In the second game of the tournament against PSC Academy 2006B Blue the boys dominated their opponent and won with the final score 3:0.
On Sunday in the last game of the tournament PFC Barcelona played against STA Mt. Olive SC. Two goals in the first half and very good defending in the second half were enough and the boys deservedly finished first.

Two PFC Players Invited to US Club id2 Training Camp in Florida
Two Princeton FC players - Nick Matese and Todd Devin attended the ID2 Training Camp in Melbourne, FL. The two players truly enjoyed this wonderful opportunity to train with some of the best players under the guidance of the national id2 program coaches.

Princeton FC 2006 Boys Barcelona reached the semifinal of NJYS Presidents Cup
The team started their campaign with convincing 4:1 win against Peninsula Wild Eagles. In the next round the boys had to face much stronger opponent. The game versus Valencia 06 Black was very competitive. Barcelona scored a goal late in the first half and managed to hold on to their lead until the end.
Hoboken City FC was the opponent in the quarterfinal. Barcelona earned much deserved 3:1 victory.
In the seminal game the team played against Match Fit Montclair United 2006 Boys. Barcelona lost 1:0 with the opponent scoring 5 min before the end of the game.
