Shamus Matthews is a dedicated and experienced soccer coach with a proven track record of developing players and leading successful programs at both the youth and collegiate levels. He joined Princeton FC in 2024, where he plays an instrumental role in player development, college recruitment, and enhancing the club’s media presence. Known for his commitment to the club’s philosophy of developing players “The Right Way,” Shamus ensures that each player’s growth aligns with the club’s long-term vision.

Professional Experience

Union College of Union County, NJ (2024-Present) – Head Women’s Soccer Coach
At Union College, Shamus leads the revitalization of the women’s soccer program, setting strategic direction and managing all aspects of the team’s development. His focus includes recruitment, training, and building a positive team culture. Shamus’s commitment to player development, both on and off the field, ensures that the team not only excels in competition but also upholds the values of academic and athletic integrity. He actively engages with the local soccer community, alumni, and supporters to strengthen the program’s presence and support base.

Princeton FC (2024-Present) – Staff Coach, College Recruitment, Media
As a Staff Coach at Princeton FC, Shamus guides players through their soccer journeys, helping them reach their potential and preparing them for collegiate opportunities. He leads the club’s college recruitment efforts, supporting players and their families throughout the recruitment process and fostering connections with college coaches. Additionally, he manages the club’s media presence, curating content for social media to highlight the club's achievements and build its reputation within the community.

Additional Coaching Experience

Allentown High School, NJ (2021-2024) – Head Coach, Boys Soccer
During his time at Allentown High School, Shamus built a competitive boys' soccer program, achieving a record of 27-27-6 over three seasons. He led the team to the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 3 Sectional Finals in 2022. Shamus also played a key role in fundraising initiatives, supporting both the program and charitable organizations like the American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels.

New Jersey Olympic Development Program (2023-Present) – Coach
Shamus contributes to the NJ ODP by creating a progressive learning environment that helps young players refine their skills and develop their potential. His coaching methodologies emphasize personal growth and skill enhancement, creating a continuous pipeline of talent.

New Jersey Surf (2022-Present) – Soccer Club Coach
At New Jersey Surf, Shamus works with high school-age players, developing their technical skills and tactical awareness. He creates a positive and inclusive team environment, preparing players for competitive matches and encouraging sportsmanship.

Liverpool F.C. International Academy, Point Pleasant, NJ – Former Director of Coaching
In this role, Shamus designed training programs that promoted player growth and established a positive team culture. He provided technical and tactical guidance, ensuring a structured approach to player development.
